The prospect of “remote play” – whereby you can play select content from your PS3 on your PSP – is an exciting one, but also one that’s been sadly under-utilised by Sony and developers. Enter the mod scene.

This is the PS3 Wireless Visual Interface, by techknott. Which allows you to do anything and everything you’d normally do on your PS3 on your PSP.

Sounds amazing, but it’s really quite simple; all the device does is stream the PS3’s data directly via a 1.2GHz transmitter, which it then replicates on its own screen and speakers. There are compromises to be had doing this, sure, from graphics to poor sound to slight lag, but hey, you want portability, you’ve always got to be willing to make a trade-off.

What this means is that unlike Sony’s official remote play function, which for PS3 games has to be supported by developers, the WVI streams everything. Even Modern Warfare 2.

Announced last month, those little Final Fantasy chocobo playthings for your 360 avatar are now being sent out to select Xbox Live users.

You need to have “won” one in a Twitter promotion, and you can’t of course actually play with the things, since they’re purely decorative, but hey, for those hanging on every day for new of their arrival, quit hanging. Your codes will be in your inbox.

Reader JJkujo was kind enough to send us in a shot of his new, fluffy friend. Thanks!

Give the kids at Something Awful a brief and directions to employ PhotoShop and they’ll generally come back with something special. Latest example being these movie posters, re-purposed as video game posters.

Below are some of the better ones, but there’s plenty more in the OP.

It’s Wednesday night. You have no date, a two-liter bottle of Shasta, your all-Rush mixtape, and, now, this impossibly good Space Invaders clone built on Futurama’s epic “Raiders of the Lost Arcade” vignette from the third season of Futurama.

Seven months in development, Shinobi’s Place has released “Invaders! Possibly from Space!” to the wild – free – for PC. It recreates Fry’s fight against Lrrr’s invading horde (“Increase speed, drop down, and reverse direction!”) with so much more – episode dialogue, power-ups, and of course, the all-Rush mixtape soundtrack. That means at least three IPs infringed upon here. I can only hope that Taito, Fox, Matt Groening, and Rush can come to a quick agreement that something this awesome must be allowed to live. In case they don’t, run go get it quick before it is C&D’d to death.

A DJ Hero sequel? Hard to believe, given publisher Activision’s fear of sequelizing its games, but one man, French DJ David Guetta has recently said that, yes, DJ Hero 2 is on his plate.

Guetta says in a recent report, spotted by Destructoid, that he’s “going to work on the No. 2 version” of DJ Hero, having already provided musical mash up contributions to the original.

Look, we all know it’s coming, or there would be a few hundred thousand very angry turntable controller owners out there. We’re just curious to see how long Activision will continue to Hero in 2010 and which attempts at recreating Guitar Hero’s success will get cut.

I love Star Wars. I love The A-Team. And, like a chocolate bar that miraculously if accidentally lands in a jar of peanut butter, this video brings both tastes together. This is why you follow Stephen J. Cannell on Twitter.

The video’s creator, YouTube’s kalleanka71 apparently is a Swede who enjoys doing these kinds of mashups. And he does them very well. This is his latest (released Dec. 25). Others include Dallas, Airwolf, both a Rebel Alliance and Imperial version, and a head-asploding MacGyver that simply must be seen.

Super Street Fighter IV won’t be the only game in town during next week’s CES convention in Las Vegas. Sony’s bringing Zipper Interactive’s PlayStation 3 shooter MAG to the show, giving fans a chance to rub elbows and shoot bullets.

It’s a pretty straightforward affair. You show up, you’re of age, you play some MAG and socialized with the Zipper Interactive folks, peppering them with questions about the next SOCOM in between hands-on time with the “final beta.”

Additional details are right here, but if you happen to miss out on the good natured festivities, the game will hit North American store shelves just a few weeks later.

Oh, here’s some important information!

Who: You and 99 other diehard MAG fans
When: Thursday, January 7 from 4:00 to 7:00pm
Where: The Aria Hotel at CityCenter in Las Vegas, Nevada

Requirements:
· You must be 18 years-old or older – ID *will* be checked by burly men!
· You must RSVP via the Facebook event page.
· Don’t hang out in the main lobby! Line up outside Juniper rooms 2 & 3.

Usually the best gifts we get for the holidays are the ones we buy for ourselves. In my case, this would be an iPhone.

Now that I’m in possession of what people are calling the next big portable gaming platform, I need to load it up with games. I’ve got a few in mind so far — and I did let Randy Nelson from Joystiq talk me into a Scrabble-type app so we could see who’s the better wordsmith — but it’d be great to get your recommendations.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

First I need Wurdle and Fieldrunners. Back in March I met the creators of both games at a Game Developers Conference panel and heard a lot of good things about both games. Also, I want to support indie gaming.

Second I should get Puzzle Quest. I know it caused me a lot of grief when an early bug deprived me of my Bard character while playing on my ex’s iPhone. But the kinks seem to be out now; and really, portable gaming doesn’t get much better than Bejeweled wrapped in a role-playing game.

Or maybe it does? Peggle is definitely third on my list both because of quality and because I feel like PopCap Games manufactures my own personal brand of crack and I owe it to them to support my addiction.

On that note and as my fourth choice, I’m keeping my eye out for Plants vs. Zombies on the App Store in January 2010.

Anybody got any other suggestions? Drop me a line in the comments.
